چکیده
گرافیک ها از جمله نقشه، عکس هوایی و تصاویر ماهواره ای تبدیل به مؤلفه مهمی از وب شده اند. یکی از دلایل این کار کاهش هزینه توزیع و ارائه است، زیرا قرار دادن گرافیک های رنگی در وب به مراتب ارزان تر از چاپ رنگی برروی کاغذ تمام می شود. وقتی هزینه های اضافی حمل و توزیع برای فرآورده های چاپی را در نظر بگیریم، آنگاه متوجه می شویم که توزیع نقشه ها و تصاویر برروی اینترنت از نظر هزینه بسیار مقرون به صرفه می باشد. هرچند چاپ نقشه دارای مزایایی است که نمی توان نادیده گرفت از جمله قدرت تفکیک1 و وضوح مناسب چاپ بسیار ارزشمند می باشد، چاپ با قدرت تفکیک بالا دارای وضوحی بین 1200 تا 3400 نقطه در اینچ2 (یا 472 تا 1339 نقطه در سانتی متر) است. در مقابل آن، صفحه نمایشگر رایانه تنها می تواند دقت 65 تا 120 نقطه در اینچ (6/25 تا 2/47 نقطه در سانتیمتر) است. در مقابل آن، صفحه نمایشگر رایانه تنها می تواند دقت 65 تا 120 نقطه در اینچ (6/25 تا 2/47 نقطه در سانتیمتر) را به نمایش بگدارد. نمایشگر رایانه از نظر ابعاد صفحه محدودیت دارد و اندازه متعارف نمایشگر از 14 اینچ تا 21 اینچ است، در حالی که نقشه، عکس و تصاویر چاپی می توانند در قطع بسیار بزرگتری تهیه شوند.

Graphics such as maps, aerial photos and satellite images have become an integral part of the web. One of the reasons for this is reducing the cost of distribution and presentation, because putting color graphics on the web is much cheaper than color printing on paper. When we consider the extra shipping and distribution costs for print products, we will realize that distributing maps and images over the Internet is cost-effective. However, printing maps has advantages that cannot be ignored, including very suitable print resolution (the high resolution print has a resolution of 1200 to 3400 dots per inch or 472 to 1339 dots per centimeter). On the other hand, computer screen can only have a precision of 65 to 120 dpi (25.6 to 47.2 dots per centimeter). Computer screen has limitations in terms of screen dimensions: the standard screen size ranges from 14 inches to 21 inches, while maps, photos and prints can be made at much larger cuts.
